The main tissues Mesenchymal stem cells are obtained from are:
Tissue such as fat (adipose), bone marrow, menstrual fluid, placenta, umbilical cord and dental pulp.
The cells that come from different tissues, have different plasticity‘s. Plasticity means the ability to turn into different tissue types.
Mesenchymal stem cells derived from certain tissues have an infinity to turn into different tissue types more frequently. For example, Wharton’s jelly mesenchymal stem cells from the cord have the infinity to turn into neurons. Mesenchymal stem cells possess distinct properties such as:
-Histocompatibility (this means there can be no risk of rejection)

Allogeneic Mesenchymal stem cells can be harvest from the placenta after normal, healthy births, when the donor has been tested for infectious diseases.
